WHAT IS COP25?

COP (Conference of the Parties) is the supreme decision-making body of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). In December of 2019, EmpoderaClima attended COP25, the 25th Conference of the Parties, which took place in Madrid, Spain, with Chile as the Presidency of the conference. Among the priorities for COP25, were: climate finance, capacity-building, loss and damage, and gender.

WHAT DID EMPODERACLIMA DO AT COP25?

EmpoderaClima has as its main goal empowering youth from the Global South, especially from Latin America and Africa, to be climate justice leaders. Having Chile as the Presidency of COP25 enabled us to create momentum and spread the word about gender equality for climate justice among global youth at COP. Our team followed the global climate negotiations on matters concerning gender and human rights, and reported on them through daily recaps. Furthermore, we also engaged in advocacy work with the Youth Constituency (YOUNGO) and the Women & Gender Constituency of the UN Climate Change negotiations, and hosted an official UN side event on women's empowerment, youth, and climate action!

HOW DO I NAVIGATE THIS PAGE?

EmpoderaClima posted daily recaps for each day of the first week of COP25 (December 1-6, 2019), which include exclusive information about the climate negotiations in Madrid, such as highlights from official side events and exhibits on gender equality and youth engagement. Each thumbnail is a clickable image that will lead you to a daily recap, including original pictures, taken by the EmpoderaClima delegation, from this high-level UN event.
